Option:

Backup

Generates a backup copy of the HSM data to a file on the workstation or server. The file must be encrypted using a key derived from a password entered by the user with a minimum of 16 and a maximum of 32 alphanumeric characters. The backup operation can be started at any time during HSM operation.

The backup is global, meaning all partitions, objects, and network parameters are included in the backup in their native representation, including their relationship with the Server Master Key. During backup restoration, restoring network parameters is optional.

The backup file structure is proprietary. The recording of objects in the backup file is independent of the object's export and encryption properties. All attributes defining the object are recorded in the backup file.

The backup can be performed on a Token by pointing the backup file path to a location representing a Token; once the file is generated on the Token, it will be protected by double layers of encryption, first by the Server Master Key and second by the backup key, derived from the provided password.

Restoration

Restores the database of partitions, objects and parameters from a generated HSM backup file.

You must enter the password used to create the backup. After restoring a backup on the HSM, you must reboot via the local console (see the "Reboot" section). The reboot cannot be performed via the remote management console.

Attention

The backup restore option will overwrite the entire HSM storage area with data from the backup file; therefore, great care must be taken during the restore operation.

Immediately after a backup restoration operation, the status of internal objects is undetermined; therefore, a second reboot is required after the restoration operation on the local console.
