Option:

Backup

Generates a backup copy of the HSM data to a file on the workstation or server. The file must be encrypted using a key derived from a password entered by the user with a minimum of 16 and a maximum of 32 alphanumeric characters. The backup operation can be started at any time during HSM operation.

The backup is global, i.e. all partitions, objects and network parameters are backed up in their native representation, including the relationship with the Server Master Key. Restoring the network parameters is optional when restoring the backup.

The structure of the backup file is proprietary. The recording of objects in the backup file is independent of the object's export and encryption properties. All the attributes that define the object are saved in the backup file.

Inform password to protect backup file (8 to 32 characters):
Password: ********
Confirm password: ********
Local file to save backup: hsm.backup

The backup can be done on a token, pointing the path of the backup file to a location that represents a token; once the file has been generated on the token, it will be protected by two layers of encryption, firstly by the Server Master Key and secondly by the backup key, derived from the password entered.

Restoration

Restores the database of partitions, objects and parameters from a generated HSM backup file.

The password used to create the copy must be entered. After a backup restore operation on the HSM, a restart via the local console is required (see topic Reboot). The restart operation cannot be done via the remote management console.

Attention

The backup restore option will overwrite the entire HSM storage area with the data from the backup file, so great care must be taken in the restore operation. Immediately after a backup restore operation, the state of the internal objects is indeterminate, so restarting after the restore operation is mandatory.
