Self-tests

It performs the known answer vector (KAT) tests provided for in the FIPS 140-2 and ITI MCT-7 standards. The service must be stopped, as some physical ports and logical output and input interfaces are disabled during the procedure.

Three types of tests are carried out:

  1. Firmware authentication: checks the integrity of the HSM's firmware component files;
  2. Functional: tests the functionality and integrity of the HSM's persistent data;
  3. Cryptographic algorithms: tests the operation of the HSM's cryptographic algorithms, verifying the outputs obtained from well-known inputs and comparing them against previously defined vectors.

If an error or failure is found in any of the tests performed, the HSM enters an error state and can no longer be used.

Self-tests are also carried out automatically when the firmware is loaded at startup.
